The Feldenkrais method with Mary Newell
Feldenkrais is a body/mind approach employing movement with awareness to improve the quality of our actions.
I offer individual sessions, as well as classes and workshops.
The Method helps you…
Feldenkrais benefits many people with problems such as:
How does it work?
The Feldenkrais Method activates the sensory-motor pathways through which the brain communicates with the body. By encouraging your awareness of sensory input, and showing you new movement coordinations, it helps alert your brain to possibilities of better movement organization. Feldenkrais said, “If you know what you’re doing, you can do what you want."
Should I take group classes or private sessions?
If you are in active pain, have had a recent injury, or have serious movement restrictions, private sessions are recommended. This gentle, hands-on work can often get to the root of the problem. Because they provide more individualized attention, private sessions are also useful for attaining a new level of performance skill.
In group classes, called Awareness Though Movement, movement sequences are verbally guided by the instructor. Participants are encouraged to focus on HOW they move, to reduce excess effort and strain and to incorporate improved coordination.
